Captain Sandy Yawn

Captain Sandy captured audiences’ attention as the first female superyacht captain on Bravo’s Below Deck Mediterranean. Today, she brings compelling stories and practical leadership lessons to live and virtual audiences. With more than 30 years of international maritime experience, she has broken barriers and navigated extraordinary challenges—from near-fatal accidents on land to encounters with pirates and fires at sea.  Sandy overcame personal and work-related struggles and challenges, including accidents, fires, and cancer and despite those, she faced the challenges and built a world-class crew.  It was the caring and discerning eye of yacht owner who saw her potential and introduced and supported her into the maritime career path.

While most business leaders won’t face life-or-death situations in their daily work, Captain Sandy’s experiences offer lessons that resonate far beyond the water. She shares timeless principles for inspiring teams, embracing failure as an opportunity to learn, and empowering people to work toward a shared win. Leading a crew aboard a 154-foot vessel requires knowing when to stay the course and when to chart a new path toward calmer waters - the same balance of resolve and adaptability that leaders need every day.

Captain Sandy extends her commitment to developing future leaders through Steering Toward Success, an educational and career-readiness initiative she developed through her nonprofit organization.
